I'm currently testing a Philips DVP3260 using vb6rocod's great ifo/DVD playback from USB-HDD According to New_Age this is next to impossible without having the ARM source code but I'm wondering why. I mean, obviously a standalone has DVD-Video playback capability as it can playback DVDs from discs so why not from USB since the files have the same structure? I guess to resolve adresses in the ifos (disc filesystem vs HDD filesystem) there would be some mapping necessary but why can't this be done without source code and isn't it attainable somehow? 'play all'-mode on mp3 playback and/or use Menu/Title to navigate folders I've ordered my mp3s like this /album1 /album2 /album3 etc. When this mode is selected I would like the player to start playing the first mp3 of album2 automatically as soon as the last mp3 of album1 finished playing. That way one could listen to mp3s without having to turn on the TV to navigate between folders. Cyberhome implemented a workaround: pressing 'program' on the remote would display all files in one long list without any folders so one could play continuosly without the need for navigation. Better than nothing but impractical with an increasing amount of files (especially on USB-HDD). So how about using the title/menu keys to go one folder up/down? use left/right for pageup/pagedown in file browser Navigating long lists of files would be significantly faster. use display button on remote to cycle display With a puny 5 digits the hardware display is undersized. I will not be making mods for a player I do not have myself, many times the player need to be brought back to life with cable in the modding process and wouldn't risk a dead player for anyone else but myself.... I will study the issue a bit. i have not been working with USB-supported players before, none of the ones I have modded has this feature, but I see many great possibilities in a player with USB. For DVD playback from USB, I beleive New Age is the most experienced to tell if possible or not.... but maybe you can trick the player to beleive your USB unit is a DVD.... dunno. With a certain serial cable you can manually reflash a dead player. It happens quite often that a player dies during modification eg. when you write new mods. ... If you gather some people and donate me a DVP3260, I would do the modding, else it is almost impossible..... What I can suggest you, Jakob, is to try to check the latest source code to see if you can find how the usb upgrade is done. If I recall correctly I read a post where you said that your player didn't update through usb. I think it is a modification that will make easier the firmware upgrade proceeding for you guys. (Not my case because my *old* player doesn't have usb, he-he!) I don't know if it is possible. (Hey, you asked for suggestions, I'm suggesting! ;) ) About your discussion, the DVP5990 has a MT1389S (DXE? model S series), and the DVP3260 has a MT1389L (model DE serie L). About the umlaut chars FA-FF you can try adapting the unicode2cp routine from my Sigmatek XM-400 mod. It has the whole range 1250-1258 selected by a shared mem value, and does the FA-FF to 00-05 conversion too. Yes, but only from ID3 tag. I've however corrected my pasting mistake above, srt subs do NOT show umlauts in original firmware. I've attached some filebrowser screenshots displaying Umlauts, the quality isn't so good due to my ancient analogue TV card (also when it comes to selected songs ;) ) so please bear with me. What's freaking me out are the weird úú chars I'm suddenly getting on the modded firmware which seems to be related to umlauts and ID3v2 tags. I have found that how I burn the music files to a DVD disc changes the way the special characters are displayed. I have to use ISO9660 and not UDF. As far as the ú appearing all over the place, burning in ISO mode seems to get rid of the problem. But as an extra solution I also created a font with the characters in the 250-255 range copied to 6-11 not 0-5, which seems to be the best combination on my player. This isn't really a problem as long as I remember to use ISO mode, but I sometimes forget and burn in UDF mode, so changing the font helps in this case. Even with these changes, the special characters in the 250-255 range are not displayed in the ID3 tags, only the characters from 0-249. I am using the RISC from the DVP5990 in my player because it includes WMV playback, which my player doesn't. I am also using the full UnicodeToCP routine that vb6rocod posted in the DVP5100 forum. I for one am surprised that this feature isn't default in the filebrowser as it is used in the setup menu and therefore apparently already in the code somewhere. Thanks for taking the time but I'm sure that's not the case cause the test files I'm referring to in this thread were all written to ISO/Joliet CD-RW. As I've verified again, these ú chars only show up in ID3v2 tags though they seem to be properly coded, at least I can't find any difference to those tags that display correctly when I check them in Winamp or MP3tag. Since I do name my files properly I do not necessarily need those tags but I would like to have my umlauts and I can't get why only one of them doesn't work. ImgBurn rocks! Why don't you burn your ISO with it instead of Nero? Or better yet, use build mode and select your burner as target device to skip a temporary ISO file on your HD, fastest way to burn ISOs. Now that you say you made it work, will there be an update for the 3260 as well? I'm still not getting the trouble with MTK chipsets and special chars. I mean, my old Cyberhome 4620 has a Mediatek 1389DE/C (as far as I can v1 (please see attachment). The last time I encountered this was 10 years or so ago :( Hi! This doesn't only happen with mp3's, I have noticed the same problem with MPEG files too. Of course, with videos it's not as annoying. I only got the 5990 yesterday and so far I am pretty pleased with it, except for one big problem: If I have a video (MPEG) in 4:3 format, the combination of DVP 5990 + HDMI cable + Sony KDL32D3000 is only capable of displaying the video in 16:9 :( The 5990 seems to transmit the wrong aspect ratio to the TV, and the TV doesn't allow me to change back to 4:3 when it thinks the image is 16:9. I haven't read all the threads on all the forums yet, but is there a possibility to avoid this, using the standard or the modded firmware, and if not can it be implemented somehow?
